Back by popular demand Dave Guertin and Greg Baldwin from Creature Box are launching the first published collection of their work at CTNX this year. Join us for the champagne book signing and meet these tremendous talents.
At its core, CreatureBox is for anyone who enjoys bizarre monster design, comics of spacemen, and illustrations of everything in between. For the past several years, Dave Guertin and Greg Baldwin have spent most of their time digging deep into what makes characters tick while trying to tell a few stories along the way. They’ve had influential childhoods filled with cartoons, robots, aliens, and creatures of all shapes and sizes. Yet through it all they’ve found collaboration to be the most critical ingredient. Together this has allowed them to expand their sensibilities while challenging each other to become better designers. Through Creaturebox.com, visitors are invited along for the ride as Dave and Greg dive into the deep end.
Dave Guertin realized at a very young age that his bones were far too brittle for high impact sports. As a result, he grabbed the nearest pencil and began drawing fulltime while soaking up classic animation and Bill Watterson’s cartooning. After receiving a degree in Sequential Art from S.C.A.D., Dave began his character design career focused on retro sci-fi and bizarre monsters of all shapes and sizes. Over the last thirteen years, Dave has served as a Principal Artist in the video game industry, most notably on the Ratchet & Clank franchise for Playstation. In 2007, Dave joined forces with Greg Baldwin to begin CreatureBox, a boutique concept design agency catering to a broad range of clients including Disney, Marvel, and DC comics.
Greg Baldwin After six long years working on the back of a north-eastern lobster boat, Greg fled to Los Angeles in hopes of something better than a burial at sea. His passion for art led him to complete a BFA at Laguna College of Art and Design where he focused on character design. After working as a freelance illustrator for a short time, he landed a position designing characters for video games. Twelve years in the industry, Greg has been fortunate enough to work as a Principal Artist on numerous AAA titles including the Ratchet & Clank franchise for Playstation. Adding to the adventure, Greg co-founded CreatureBox with Dave Guertin, a successful design house specializing in IP development for companies such as Disney, Autodesk and Marvel and more.
