Title: The Independant Feature Filmmakers
Sponsored by The Creative Talent Network
Length 45 min
Outside of the big box studio system there are independent filmmakers fueled with passion, ideas and creative drive that embark on the amazing journey of creating a feature length animated film as an independent. This round table discussion takes us on that jouney as these career animators turned independent filmmakers speak casually about how they did it, what they experienced and what they would do differently.
Raul Garcia: Currently the Creative Director Kandor Moon
Raul Garcia was born in Madrid, Spain. He has worked professionally in animation since he was 19. While still in college he was hired to work as animator for legendary TV animation studio Hanna-Barbera.
Raul has worked as an animator in 26 feature films. Including 9 years as a Disney animator in films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Aladdin, Lion King, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Tarzan, and Fantasia, and a stint as sequence director in The Rugrats in Paris, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and The Wild Thornberries Movie. He developed the feature film Sian Ka’an: An Angel in the Rainforest and just completed the animated feature The Missing Lynx, co-written and directed with Manuel Sicilia. He is a partner in Antonio Bandera’s animation studio Kamdor Moon.
“These days, our biggest challenge is to keep up with the demands of the market place in terms of creating new content that is fresh, new and appealing to the ever-changing audience’s taste. Animation has never been healthier from the creative point of view. A wide range of new styles and themes are continuously changing our perception of what’s animation. While network television seems to be stalling, cable and the internet offers bigger and newer possibilities.”
