Making It! Creative Development at Sony Pictures Animation

CTN is proud to announce in a rare and priviledged appearance that Richard Sherman will share his talent and magic with us at CTNx 2011. He will talk and perform some of the most beloved award winning songs he’s written for feature films.

It is a well known fact that talent has ideas for properties and production studio executives are looking for properties. But what is not as well known  is how do these two entities, that very much need and rely on each other, connect. What do they look for and what is the process. In a rare and candid open session listen to top creative executives who are responsible for green lighting some of the highest grossing films  at Sony share about what they look for and why.

Michael Lachance – Senior Vice President, Production – Sony Pictures Animation
Join Michael Lachance, senior vice president of production at Sony Pictures Animation, and a panel of development artists for a rare look at the creative process at Sony Pictures Animation.  The success of this summer’s SMURFS, the anticipation of two films with Aardman Animation, “HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA” now in production and the recent acquisitions of such properties as “MUNCLE TROGG,” “THE FAMILIARS,” “POOCH CAFE,” and “CHICKEN HARE,” begins to illustrates the energy and diversity of stories and characters that Sony Pictures Animation embraces.  Listen to Michael and his colleagues as they share the journey from pitch to picture.
Sony Pictures Animation produces a variety of animated entertainment for audiences around the world. The studio is following its worldwide comedy hits, the 2011 hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster, The Smurfs (3D) and the 2009 mouth-watering Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (3D), with the family comedy Hotel Transylvania (3D) in Fall 2012. The division is also in production with Aardman Animations on two feature films, the CG-animated family comedy Arthur Christmas (3D) in theaters November 2011 and the stop-frame animated high-seas adventure, The Pirates! Band of Misfits (3D) in March 2012. Open Season 3, the third adventure in Sony Pictures Animation’s successful Open Season franchise, was released on DVD and Blu-ray January 2011. In 2007, Surf’s Up received an Academy Award®-nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.  Sony Pictures Animation is an operating unit of Sony Pictures Digital Productions.
