Bobby Rubio Story Artist and Comic Book Creator

Bobby Rubio is a Story Artist at Pixar Animation Studios.  He has worked on the films “Up,” “Cars 2,” “Brave” and “Monster’s University” as well as the animated short, “Tokyo Mater.”  After work hours, he works on his creator-owned independent comic, “Alcatraz High” and “4 Gun Conclusion.” He has also recently freelanced for Marvel Comics as a cover artist.

Growing up in San Diego, Bobby’s childhood dream was to become a comic book artist.  He had freelanced for Dark Horse Comics (“Godzilla”) and Topps Comics (“Friday the 13th.”)  He then attended the California Institute of the Arts in the animation program and there, grew a love for animation.  After Bobby earned his B.F.A in animation from CALARTS, he was offered internships at Jim Lee’s comic studio, Wildstorm, in his hometown of San Diego followed by an  animation internship with Walt Disney Feature Animation in Florida.  After the internships, Bobby went to work at Walt Disney Feature Animation in Burbank.  His career there spanned 9 years, starting with “Pocahontas” as a Clean-up Artist and then eventually becoming a Traditonal Animator on “Treasure Planet.”  After Disney, Bobby worked as an Assistant Director and Storyboard Artist at Nickelodeon Studios on the project “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”  He worked there for 2 and a half seasons until he was offered a Story Artist position at Pixar.

This year, Bobby has completed his comic series, “Alcatraz High” with issue #5!  The acclaimed series has been 9 years in the making and has been featured in articles in Variety and the Wall Street Journal.  Bobby will have the complete series of “Alcatraz High” available for purchase and signing as well as limited editions of his sketchbook, copies of “4 Gun Conclusion” and art prints.
