Peter Emmerich Visual Development Artist

Peter Emmerich Visual Development Artist

Peter Emmerich is an acclaimed Illustrator who has enjoyed an extensive relationship with The Walt Disney Company.  Two days after graduating from The Fashion Institute of Technology, he began his career as a character artist for Walt Disney Consumer Products.  Less than three years later, he was promoted to Chief Illustrator and Official Character Artist for the Disneyland Resort.

Peter was chosen to create postage stamps for the United States Postal Service, a project that eventually grew into a series of twenty stamps issued over five years.  Portraying characters from iconic Disney films, these stamps proved to be the most popular and best-selling series in USPS history, and Peter’s original artwork was featured in the exhibition, Trailblazers and Trendsetters: Art of the Stamp, at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.

Peter’s freelance career has included work for Walt Disney Art Classics, Walt Disney Consumer Products, Walt Disney Publishing and The Disney Stores, as well as Guinness, Penguin Publishing, Parachute Publishing and Bruce McGaw Graphics.  He has served on the Permanent Collection committee of the Society of Illustrators and is currently on the faculty of The Fashion Institute of Technology.  He has also taught at the Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts in New York City and at the Polimoda International Institute in Florence, Italy.
