The Third Floor

In 2002, Chris Edwards joined a team of digital artists at Lucasfilm, that were tasked with previsualizing Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Afterwards, Edwards spearheaded the creation of THE THIRD FLOOR, an independent previsualization company in Los Angeles, in 2004.

As CEO and Creative Director at THE THIRD FLOOR, Edwards has helped design many feature films, commercials, and video game cinematics. Theatrical credits include The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Valkyrie, Eagle Eye, Beowulf, Cloverfield, Avatar, and Alice in Wonderland. Cinematic credits include Resident Evil 5, Starcraft II, Diablo III, & Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.

Chris Edwards is also one of the founders of the recently announced Previsualization Society, an international organization dedicated to furthering the artform of previs.

The Third Floor Inc., is the World’s Preeminent Previsualization Company. Since 2004, the Studio has helped clients visualize and maximize their creative content by creating computer-animated blueprints known as “previsualizations”. The company’s feature film credits include: Valkyrie, Cloverfield, Star Trek, Avatar and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. The Third Floor also works with video game developers to design detailed cinematics for titles such as: Starcraft II, Diablo III, Resident Evil 5, Need for Speed and the Command & Conquer series. The Third Floor’s veteran previs teams know how to interface with Directors, Designers and VFX Supervisors to deliver cohesive animated blueprints for the most challenging creative projects. Mark Austin Cinematic Artist After earning his Batchelor of Arts Degree from West Surrey College of Art and Design in Surrey, England, Mark went on to make the filmed animated short, “Father” that would later be nominated for a BAFTA and eventually win numerous awards.

Soon after, Mark started his career in earnest at the Wyatt Cattaneo Animation Studio in London overseeing the commercial campaigns of the company’s largest European brand names, including Tetley Tea Bags, Ribena and the Swiss Bank Corporation.

In 1993 Mark moved to LucasFilm’s Industrial Light and Magic to work on Steven
Spielberg’s “Casper” and then given charge of the creature animation for the first “Star Wars” Special Edition. Mark soon moved on to Walt Disney Feature Animation as a supervising animator on such projects as “Dinosaur,” “Treasure Planet,” Disney World’s 3D attraction: “Mickey’s Philharmagic,” followed by “Chicken Little” and then “Bolt.”

Mark is currently working at The 3rd Floor Studios as a pre-visualization artist working closely with such directors as Peter Berg (“Battleship”), Rob Cohen (“Medieval”), Guy Ritchie (“Lobo”) and Marcus Nispel (“Conan”). He is also currently in development at Renaissance Millennium Pictures on the upcoming animated television series “Polar Paradise” which he is directing and co-producing.
